Several years
ago the Northern
Westchester Hospital
made the area aware of the RN shortage in our local hospitals. The Pound Ridge Lions Club together with the
clubs of Bedford Hills, Bedford Village, and Mount Kisco
joined together to award two annual scholarships to deserving high school
seniors or adults seeking a career change or advancement toward a Registered
Nurse degree. These two scholarships
are based on 100% of the tuition costs for the Westchester Community College program It is the goal of the clubs to establish a
permanent scholarship fund to encourage students or Licensed Practical Nurses
to become RN’s.
Each club
contributes an equal share to the fund on an annual basis which is
coordinated by the Mt.
Kisco Lions Club under
its 501c3 tax exempt corporation.
Additionally, combined club fund raisers are being planned to expand
and offset local club commitments.
The scholarship
program has been endorsed by Northern
Westchester Hospital
in Mount Kisco and the public and private
schools in the area. For more
information about this scholarship contact either your school guidance
counselor or local Lion Club.
