EYEGLASS RECYCLING

The World Health Organization estimates 153 million people around the world have refractive vision problems. Refractive vision errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions of people in low and middle-income countries lack access to eyeglasses and basic vision services.

Old glasses can give new life!  Lions help to conserve sight by providing usable eyeglasses to children and adults throughout the world. Donated eyeglasses can help millions to experience corrected vision for the first time, enabling them to read, attend school, gain employment and take care of their families.  Lions have been collecting eyeglass for over 80 years and recycling is one of our most important activities.  Annually, we collect, clean and distribute almost 30,000,000 pair of eyeglasses here in the United States and throughout the globe.

Meet with your local elementary or middle school administrators over the summer.  Ask if the teachers could explain and promote the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Program to the students and if your club could provide a eyeglass drop off box in the school for the months of October through December.

Additionally, provide the School Teachers with the 10-minute DVD presentation (English only) that explains the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Program as well as promotional posters, flyers and brochures that they could utilize in their schools.
