PEACE POSTER CONTEST

IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE UNITED NATIONS

The Peace Poster Contest was created in 1988 to give young people throughout the world the opportunity to creatively express their feelings for world peace and share their visions with the world.  Approximately 350,000 children from more then 65 countries participate in the contest annually.

Local Lion Clubs sponsor the contest in schools or organized youth groups such as Scouts and Boys & Girls Clubs within the community.  The contest is open to students age 11-13 on November 15th. of the contest year.  Participants are asked to draw, sketch or paint their interpretation of the contest theme which changes annually.

One winner for each contest sponsored by a local Lion Club is chosen to advance to the District Governor for judging.  Lion Clubs can sponsor more then one contest.  On the district level, one winner is selected to go to the State Level for judging and from there one is selected to go to Lions Clubs International for final judging.

During the final judging, 23 merit award winners and one grand prize winner are chosen to represent the entries from throughout the world.  The grand prize winner receives a trip to the United Nations; an engraved plaque and a $2,500 cash award.  The 23 merit award winners each receive a certificate and a $500 cash award.
