This exchange is sponsored by Lions Clubs International in
conjunction with the Pound Ridge Lions Club, Inc of Pound Ridge, New York, United
States; The Boroondara Central Lions Club of Boroondara, Victoria, Australia;
the Carey Baptist Grammar School of Kew, Victoria, Australia and the Horace
Greeley High School of Chappaqua, New York, United States. It is understood that the purpose and objectives of the
Youth Exchange is to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the
peoples of the world. To bring young
people into contact with youth and adults of other countries; to share family
and community life of other cultures; and to promote international
understanding and good will throughout the world. This exchange is a six to seven week direct reciprocal
exchange of parties of the same sex, and age bracket. Minimum participation age is fourteen (14)
at time of departure to the foreign country.
Direct reciprocal exchange means that the participating students will
be staying in each other’s houses while in the foreign country. Australian student(s) will go to The exchanges will attend the local school of the host
student WITHOUT academic credit. In
the host school the teachers will expect the student to be attentive and to
the best of his/her ability, take part in all classroom activities and
complete set homework unless waived by the teacher. Exchange students parents are responsible for all costs
involved in travel arrangements. Host
Families are responsible for all costs of room and board as well as all local
travel and planned recreation. SELECTION PROCESS Only two students from each school will be accepted to
participate in the exchange in 2010.
All interested candidates should ask your local school Youth Exchange
Coordinator for the “Exchange Selection Application” and the” Exchange
General Agreement”. Discuss the
exchange with your parents. If both
you and your parents continue to be interested, complete the forms including
all required attachments and return them to your local school Youth Exchange
Coordinator. Upon receipt and review
of the application, the first of TWO interviews will be set up - the first
with the local school Youth Exchange Coordinator with your parents at the
local school, the second with the local Lion Club Youth Exchange
Coordinator(s) at your residence. Upon
completion of all interviews you will be informed if you and your family have
been selected to participate in the exchange.
